The Securitron GL1 is a surface-mounted electromechanical gate lock designed to provide reliable access control for swinging or sliding gates. Its weather-resistant construction supports indoor and outdoor installations, including pedestrian gates, vehicle gates and stock-control gates.
With 2,000 pounds of holding force and the ability to operate against up to 100 pounds of preload, the GL1 is particularly useful on gates affected by wind pressure, gate sag, misalignment or pressure against the latch. A self-aligning receiver provides up to ±1/2 inch of horizontal adjustment to help compensate for normal gate movement.
The GL1 automatically accepts either 12VDC or 24VDC without a field voltage adjustment. Fail-locked and fail-safe configurations are available, along with optional latch-status monitoring.

Model Selection Guide
| Model | Power-Failure Operation | Latch-Status Monitor |
|---|---|---|
| GL1-FL | Fail locked/fail secure | No |
| GL1-FLM | Fail locked/fail secure | Yes |
| GL1-FS | Fail safe | No |
| GL1-FSM | Fail safe | Yes |
Fail Locked/Fail Secure
The gate remains locked if electrical power is lost. Electrical activation releases the lock.
Choose this configuration when maintaining security during a power failure is required and the opening is permitted to remain locked under applicable life-safety and egress codes.
Fail Safe
The lock releases when electrical power is removed.
Choose this configuration when the gate must unlock during a power failure. Confirm that fail-safe operation satisfies the security and code requirements of the particular opening.
Monitored Models
Models ending in M include the manufacturer’s latch-status monitoring option. Non-monitored models do not provide this monitoring feature.
Important Manual Key-Override Information
Manual key override is available only on fail-locked models.
The GL1 accepts a standard mortise cylinder using an Adams Rite MS-style cam. The mortise cylinder and required spacer are not included with the lock and must be selected separately.
Mortise Cylinder Spacer Guide
| Cylinder Length | Required Spacer |
|---|---|
| 1 inch | 1/4 inch |
| 1-1/8 inches | 3/8 inch |
| 1-1/4 inches | 1/2 inch |
Confirm the cylinder length, cam type, gate construction and mounting arrangement before ordering.
Electrical Specifications
| Specification | Rating |
|---|---|
| Input voltage | 12 or 24VDC |
| 12VDC initial current | 870 mA for approximately 1 second |
| 12VDC reduced current | 290 mA |
| 24VDC initial current | 720 mA for approximately 1 second |
| 24VDC reduced current | 170 mA |
| Voltage selection | Automatic |
The connected power supply must be capable of supporting the lock’s initial peak current—not only its reduced holding current. A compatible power supply, access-control equipment, release devices and field wiring must be selected separately unless expressly included in the purchased package.

Gate-Mounting Accessories
The GL1 may be mounted directly where the gate construction and installation conditions allow. Securitron also offers application-specific Flex-Mount bracket kits:

These mounting kits are sold separately and are not automatically included with the GL1.
Certifications and Listings
- UL 294 listed
- CAN/ULC-S533 listed
- Manufacturer-listed as NFPA 101 compliant
Final code compliance depends on the complete gate system, selected fail mode, release controls, emergency operation, access-control equipment and local authority requirements. A product listing does not automatically make every installation code compliant.
What Is Not Automatically Included
Unless specifically stated in the selected package, do not assume the following components are included:
- Mortise cylinder
- Adams Rite MS cam cylinder
- Cylinder spacer
- FMK-SL sliding-gate bracket kit
- FMK-SW swinging-gate bracket kit
- 12/24VDC power supply
- Keypad, card reader or access-control system
- Request-to-exit device
- Push button or emergency release
- Conduit, gate loop or field wiring
- Latch-status monitoring on non-M models
Always verify the complete model number and package contents before ordering.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Securitron GL1?
The GL1 is a heavy-duty, surface-mounted electromechanical lock for controlling access through swinging or sliding gates.
How much holding force does the GL1 provide?
The manufacturer rates the GL1 for 2,000 pounds of holding force.
Can the GL1 release when pressure is applied to the gate?
The GL1 is designed to operate under preload up to 100 pounds. This makes it useful where wind, gate alignment or users pushing against the gate can place pressure on the locking mechanism.
What is the difference between GL1-FL and GL1-FS?
The GL1-FL is fail locked, also called fail secure, and remains locked when power is lost. The GL1-FS is fail safe and releases when power is removed.
What is the difference between GL1-FL and GL1-FLM?
Both are fail-locked models. The GL1-FLM adds latch-status monitoring, while the GL1-FL is not monitored.
What is the difference between GL1-FS and GL1-FSM?
Both are fail-safe models. The GL1-FSM adds latch-status monitoring, while the GL1-FS is not monitored.
Does the GL1 have a manual key override?
Fail-locked GL1 models can accept a standard mortise cylinder with an Adams Rite MS cam for manual key override. Manual key override is not available on the fail-safe configuration.
Is the mortise cylinder included?
No. Securitron specifically states that the mortise cylinder is not included. The correct MS-cam cylinder and spacer must be ordered separately.
Can the GL1 be used outdoors?
Yes. Securitron lists the GL1 for indoor or outdoor use and describes it as weather resistant. Proper wiring methods, conduit, power supplies and connected controls must also be suitable for the installation environment.
Is the GL1 waterproof?
Securitron describes it as weather resistant and suitable for outdoor use. The manufacturer does not describe the GL1 as waterproof or submersible. Do not install it where it may be submerged or exposed beyond the manufacturer’s intended outdoor conditions.
Can it be installed on a swinging gate?
Yes. The GL1 can be used on swinging gates. The optional FMK-SW Flex-Mount bracket kit is available for swinging-gate applications and is sold separately.
Can it be installed on a sliding gate?
Yes. The GL1 can be used on sliding gates. The optional FMK-SL Flex-Mount bracket kit is available for sliding-gate applications and is sold separately.
Does the mounting bracket come with the GL1?
Application-specific FMK-SL and FMK-SW bracket kits are sold separately. Do not assume either kit is included with the lock.
Does the GL1 operate on 12VDC or 24VDC?
It operates on either 12VDC or 24VDC. Voltage selection is automatic, so no field voltage adjustment is required.
How should the power supply be sized?
The power supply must accommodate the initial current requirement of 870 mA at 12VDC or 720 mA at 24VDC. Do not size the power supply using only the lower reduced-current rating.
Does the GL1 include a power supply?
A power supply should not be assumed to be included. Select a compatible regulated 12/24VDC power supply unless the specific package being purchased expressly includes one.
What does the latch-status monitor indicate?
The monitoring option provides a latch-status output for use with compatible access-control or monitoring equipment. This option is supplied only on models ending in M.
Will the GL1 correct a badly sagging gate?
The self-aligning receiver allows approximately ±1/2 inch of horizontal compensation. It can accommodate normal movement and minor misalignment, but it is not a substitute for repairing damaged hinges, posts, rollers or a severely sagging gate.
Is the GL1 suitable for an emergency-egress gate?
Suitability depends on the selected fail mode, release controls, gate application and applicable codes. Confirm the complete opening with the project’s code professional or authority having jurisdiction before ordering.
What warranty applies to the GL1?
The GL1 is covered by Securitron’s SecuriCare three-year, no-fault, no-questions-asked warranty. It should not be advertised as having Securitron’s MagnaCare lifetime warranty.
