Product Title
Adams Rite UltraLine 7400 Preload-Capable Electric Strike
Product Description
The Adams Rite UltraLine 7400 Electric Strike provides remote electrical unlocking for doors equipped with an Adams Rite 4500, discontinued 4700 or 4900 Series deadlatch, as well as compatible cylindrical locksets with a 1/2" to 5/8" latchbolt projection.
Unlike a conventional electric strike, the UltraLine 7400 can release electrically while experiencing up to 25 lb. of door preload. Preload can result from air pressure, weather seals, warped doors, misalignment or other pressure forcing the latchbolt against the strike keeper. Adjustable stainless-steel keeper inserts help compensate for these opening conditions.
The 7400 has a compact 1-1/4" × 4-7/8" flat faceplate with radius corners and can be used in compatible aluminum, hollow-metal or wood applications. Its single-solenoid design operates on 12 or 24 VDC using the included plug-in voltage adapters. A separate VA7400-16VDC adapter is required for 16 VDC operation. Adams Rite
Important: The UltraLine 7400 operates on DC power. It is not the AC/DC electrical platform used by the older Adams Rite 7100 Series.

Important Voltage Information
- The strike uses a single DC solenoid.
- The standard package includes plug-in voltage adapters for 12 and 24 VDC.
- The VA7400-16VDC adapter is required and ordered separately for 16 VDC systems.
- Do not connect the 7400 directly to AC power.
- The quick-connect plug must be configured with the correct voltage adapter before power is applied.
What Is Door Preload?
Preload is pressure forcing the door’s latchbolt against the electric-strike keeper. Common causes include:
- Building air pressure
- Air-conditioning systems
- Weather stripping
- Door warping
- Misaligned doors or frames
- Door closers holding pressure against the opening
Excessive preload can prevent an ordinary electric strike from releasing even when it receives power. The Adams Rite UltraLine 7400 is designed to release electrically under up to 25 lb. of preload.
The included keeper shim pack allows the installer to adjust the keeper for door and frame conditions. Adjustment does not eliminate the need to repair a severely damaged or improperly aligned opening.
Fail-Safe and Fail-Secure Operation
The 7400 is field selectable for:
-
Fail secure: The strike remains locked when power is removed.
-
Fail safe: The strike unlocks when power is removed.
The correct mode must be selected according to the security requirements and applicable building, fire and life-safety codes.
Monitoring Option
A monitored 7400 is available with two Form C switches that report:
- Whether the latchbolt is engaged in the strike jaws
- Whether the solenoid is in the locked or unlocked position
Monitoring is optional and must be selected when ordering. It is not automatically included with every 7400.
Standard Package
The complete UltraLine 7400 is individually boxed with:
- Electric-strike body
- Flat radius-corner faceplate
- Mounting screws
- Mounting tabs
- Adhesive shims
- Adjustable keeper shim pack
- Plug-in voltage adapters for 12 and 24 VDC
The VA7400-16VDC adapter is not included and must be purchased separately when using 16 VDC power.
Lip-Extension Options
The standard 7400 lip is sized for a 1-3/4" thick door that closes flush with the jamb edge.
Lip-extension kits are available for center-hung doors, thicker doors or jamb conditions that change the door-centerline-to-jamb-edge dimension. They are offered in 1/8" increments for flat-faceplate models such as the 7400.
