The dormakaba Simplex L1031 is a heavy-duty mechanical pushbutton lock offering combination-controlled entry, unrestricted interior egress and an internal passage feature. Passage mode allows the exterior lever to operate without entering the combination when unlocked access is desired. The L1031 requires no batteries, wiring, software or keys and features ADA-compliant levers, weather-resistant construction and a 3-hour UL/ULC fire-rated cylindrical latch.

Full Product Description

The dormakaba Simplex L1031 Mechanical Pushbutton Lock provides reliable, battery-free combination access with the added convenience of an interior-controlled passage function. Authorized users normally enter by pressing the programmed combination and depressing the exterior lever. The interior lever always permits unrestricted free egress.

The L1031 is the combination-entry and passage model in the Simplex L1000 Series. When passage mode is activated from the interior, the exterior lever remains operable without requiring the access combination. This allows a normally secured door to remain unlocked during business hours, scheduled meetings, deliveries or other periods when unrestricted entry is desired.

When passage mode is discontinued, the exterior lever returns to combination-controlled operation. The passage feature is operated from the interior using the control furnished with passage-function models, helping prevent unauthorized users on the exterior from changing the door’s operating mode.

The L1031 does not include a mechanical key override. Users enter from the exterior either by entering the combination or, when passage mode is active, by operating the exterior lever without a code.

Because the Simplex L1031 is completely mechanical, it requires no batteries, electrical wiring, power supply, access cards, software, computer or network connection. This reduces maintenance and makes it a dependable standalone access-control solution for commercial openings.

The lock stores one shared access combination. Combinations may use up to five buttons pressed individually or simultaneously, providing thousands of possible combinations. The code can be changed from the interior side without removing the complete lock from the door.

Heavy-duty construction includes a cast exterior housing, unified trim plate, vandal-resistant solid-metal pushbuttons and fixed ADA-compliant lever handles. The L1031 installs on properly prepared wood or hollow metal doors using an ANSI/ASA 161 cylindrical lock preparation with additional through holes.

The cylindrical latch carries a 3-hour UL/ULC fire rating for “A”-labeled doors, and the lock is weather resistant for suitable exterior applications. The L1031 is factory handed and must be ordered for the correct handing because it is not field reversible. Manufacturer specifications

L1031 Function

Combination Entry with Passage Mode

  • Normal exterior operation: Enter the correct combination and depress the lever.
  • Passage operation: Depress the exterior lever without entering a combination.
  • Interior operation: Inside lever always provides free egress.
  • Passage control: Activated and deactivated from the interior.
  • Key override: No
  • Cylinder core: Not applicable
  • Privacy or lockout mode: No
  • Number of codes: One shared combination

Passage mode changes the exterior lever from code-controlled entry to unrestricted entry. It does not change or erase the programmed combination.

How Passage Mode Works

The passage function allows authorized personnel to temporarily place the lock in an unlocked-access mode.

Passage Mode Activated

  • No combination is required.
  • The exterior lever retracts the latch normally.
  • The door can be used freely from either side.

Passage Mode Deactivated

  • The exterior lever remains secured.
  • Users must enter the correct combination before operating the exterior lever.
  • The interior lever continues to provide free egress.

This function is useful for doors that require controlled entry after hours but should remain accessible during normal operating periods.
