Full Product Description
The dormakaba Simplex L1021 Mechanical Pushbutton Lock combines battery-free keyless access with the security and convenience of a mechanical key override. Authorized users can enter through the exterior by entering the programmed combination or by using the facility’s compatible key. The interior lever always allows unrestricted free egress.
The L1021 is the combination-entry and key-override model in the Simplex L1000 Series. The key override allows building owners and facility managers to maintain an existing master-keyed system, provide emergency access or enter the opening without using the combination.
Compatible key-override preparations are available for BEST-style small-format interchangeable cores and selected large-format removable cores from Corbin Russwin, Medeco, ASSA, Yale, Abloy, Schlage and Sargent. The appropriate core preparation must be specified when ordering. Cylinder cores are not supplied with the lock.
Because the Simplex L1021 is completely mechanical, it does not require batteries, electrical wiring, software, access cards, mobile credentials or a network connection. This eliminates battery-replacement expenses and makes the lock a dependable standalone access-control solution for commercial facilities.
The lock stores one shared access combination. The combination can use up to five buttons pressed individually or simultaneously, providing thousands of possible combinations. It can be changed from the interior side without removing the lock from the door. The L1021 does not provide individual user codes, an audit trail, remote management or scheduled access.
Heavy-duty construction includes a cast exterior housing, unified trim plate, vandal-resistant solid-metal pushbuttons and fixed ADA-compliant lever handles. The lock installs on properly prepared wood or hollow metal doors using an ANSI/ASA 161 cylindrical lock preparation with additional through holes.
The cylindrical latch carries a 3-hour UL/ULC fire rating for “A”-labeled doors, while the lock’s weather-resistant construction makes it suitable for appropriate exterior applications. The L1021 is factory handed and must be ordered for the correct handing because it is not field reversible. Manufacturer specifications

Before ordering, confirm:
- Door handing
- Required core manufacturer and format
- Door thickness
- Finish
- Backset

- Strike requirements
- Fire-rating requirements

The L1021 is normally furnished less core. Ordering an incorrect core preparation can prevent the facility’s cylinder from fitting the lock.
