Best Core Equivalent

The dormakaba Simplex L1076 is a heavy-duty mechanical pushbutton lever lock featuring combination entry, mechanical key override, interior privacy lockout and free egress. Activating privacy mode disables the exterior pushbutton combination while still allowing emergency or authorized entry with the override key. The L1076 requires no batteries or wiring and includes a 3/4" throw cylindrical latch. Cylinder core is not included.

Full Product Description

The dormakaba Simplex L1076 Mechanical Pushbutton Lock provides battery-free combination access with an interior-controlled privacy or lockout function. It is designed for offices, consultation rooms, healthcare spaces and other controlled areas where an occupant may need to temporarily prevent entry by users who know the combination.

During normal operation, an authorized user enters the programmed combination and depresses the exterior lever to retract the latch. Management personnel can also enter using a compatible mechanical override key. The interior lever always provides unrestricted free egress.

When privacy mode is activated from the interior, the lock disables exterior combination entry. Anyone attempting to use the normal access code cannot enter while privacy mode is active. Authorized or emergency personnel can still gain access with the mechanical override key.

The L1076 is the combination-entry, key-override and privacy-lockout model in the Simplex L1000 Series. It does not include passage mode and should not be confused with the L1041, which provides key override and passage rather than privacy.

Available key-override preparations support BEST-style small-format interchangeable cores and selected large-format removable cores from Corbin Russwin, Medeco, ASSA, Yale, Abloy, Schlage and Sargent. The correct core preparation must be specified when ordering. The interchangeable or removable cylinder core is not supplied with the lock.

Because the Simplex L1076 is completely mechanical, it does not require batteries, electrical wiring, a power supply, access cards, software or a network connection. This makes it a reliable standalone solution that continues operating during power and network outages.

The lock stores one shared access combination. Combinations can use up to five buttons pressed individually or simultaneously, providing thousands of possible combinations. Authorized personnel can change the combination from the interior without removing the complete lock from the door.

Heavy-duty construction includes a cast exterior housing, unified trim plate, vandal-resistant solid-metal pushbuttons and fixed ADA-compliant lever handles. The L1076 is furnished with a 3/4" throw cylindrical latch and beveled faceplate for a 2-3/4" backset.

The cylindrical latch carries a 3-hour UL/ULC fire rating for “A”-labeled doors, and the lock is weather resistant for appropriate exterior applications. The L1076 is factory handed and must be ordered for the correct handing because it is not field reversible. Manufacturer specifications

How Privacy Lockout Works

The privacy function allows an occupant or authorized user inside the room to temporarily disable normal exterior combination entry.

This creates two levels of exterior access:

  1. Normal access: The programmed combination or override key can be used.
  2. Privacy access: Only the mechanical override key can be used.

This arrangement allows management, security or emergency personnel to retain keyed access even when privacy mode is active.

The L1076 is not a deadbolt and does not prevent egress. The interior lever remains operable at all times.

Key-Override Core Options

The L1076 can be ordered with the following core preparations:

Why Choose the L1076?

Choose the Simplex L1076 when you need:

  • Battery-free combination entry

  • Mechanical emergency or management override
  • Compatibility with an existing master-key system
  • Free interior egress
  • ADA-compliant lever operation

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the L1076 privacy function do?

It temporarily disables exterior combination entry. While privacy mode is active, the normal pushbutton code will not unlock the door.

Can someone enter while privacy mode is active?

Yes, but only with the compatible mechanical override key. This preserves management or emergency access.

Does privacy mode prevent someone from exiting?

No. The interior lever continues to provide free egress.

Does privacy mode erase the combination?

No. The programmed combination remains stored and becomes usable again when privacy mode is released.

Does the L1076 include a key override?

Yes. Key override is required because it provides authorized access while privacy mode is active.

Is the cylinder core included?

No. The compatible interchangeable or removable core must be ordered separately.

Can it work with an existing master-key system?

Yes, when ordered with the correct preparation and fitted with a compatible cylinder.

Does the L1076 have passage mode?

No. The L1076 provides privacy lockout rather than passage. Consider the L1041 when key override and passage are required.

How many user codes can it hold?

The L1076 stores one shared combination. It does not support individual user codes, audit trails or remote management.

Does it require batteries?

No. The L1076 is completely mechanical.

Is the L1076 ADA compliant?

It uses fixed ADA-compliant lever handles. Compliance of the complete opening depends on proper installation and all applicable conditions.

Is the lock field reversible?

No. It is factory handed and must be ordered for the correct door handing.

What latch does the L1076 use?

It uses a 3/4" throw cylindrical latch with a beveled faceplate and 2-3/4" backset.

Is the L1076 fire rated?

Its cylindrical latch carries a 3-hour UL/ULC rating when properly installed as part of a compatible “A”-labeled fire-door assembly.
